Bio

Visual Artist Lee Paje makes use of unique materials such as oil on Copper painting, sculpture, and video to create works concerned with independence, individuality, and identities. Her visual narratives reveal alternative realities that bring attention to the restraints of gender inequality. She intertwines contemporary lifestyles with the rigidity of past traditions. Lee Paje utilizes a wide range of materials—including painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, and installation—to create works concerned with gender and identity. Her visual narratives reveal alternative myths and histories that challenge colonial legacies and heteronormative traditions, intertwining contemporary approaches with the rigidity of the past. Through these reimagined narratives, she envisions futures where freedom and inclusivity can flourish, extending her compositions into broad social and cultural commentary. She has exhibited in the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Italy, the US, Australia, and Germany.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman and recipient of the Dominador Castañeda Award for Outstanding Thesis, Paje has participated in international artist residencies such as ART OMI in New York and LIA in Leipzig, Germany, supported by the Goethe-Institut. In addition to being selected for the 2014 Young Artist Discovery at Art Taipei, she received the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Don Papa Art Competition. In 2021, she presented large-scale works at the 10th Asia Pacific Triennial (QAGOMA) in Australia, where she continues to engage critically with themes of identity, culture, and history.
